What is George Street Playhouse?

George Street Playhouse is a fully professional, nationally-recognized Regional theatre located in New Brunswick, NJ.  We are a producing theatre -- costumes, props and all other production elements are built on our premises. George Street Playhouse produces five mainstage productions over the course of its season, which generally starts in late September or early October and runs through the Spring.

How much do tickets cost?

Tickets for most performances start at $25. Individual tickets are priced depending on your seat location and the night of the week you attend. A $6.50 NBPAC facility fee is added to each ticket purchased. Click here for current pricing and seat availability

How do I purchase a ticket?

You can purchase a ticket in one of three ways:  in person, by phone, or via our website. You may call Patron Services at 732-246-7717 to order tickets by phone.  We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover Cards.  Click here to purchase tickets. Tickets are non-refundable. 

It’s great that I can buy tickets online? Is it safe?

Our website encrypts all data between your computer and our website so that it cannot be read over the Internet.  You payment information is never stored. Our website is audited yearly to ensure it meets with the rigorous standards of the industry.

When will I receive my tickets?

If the date of your performance is five days or less, your tickets will be held for you at Patron Services prior to the performance. At all other times, you have the option of receiving your tickets via email to Print-at-Home, in the mail, or having them held at will-call. Orders are processed within 24 hours of their receipt by Patron Services. 

If it is not possible for me to attend the performance, can I exchange my tickets?

Tickets are non-refundable. If you cannot attend your performance, please take advantage of our exchange policy 24 hours prior to your performance date to come at a later date of the same production or consider donating your tickets back to George Street Playhouse.

Exchanges must be made at least 24 hours prior to the performance you are unable to attend and cannot be accommodated at showtime. We are unable to make exchanges in-person. All exchanges must be done over the phone, or via email.

You cannot exchange tickets for a performance that has already passed.

For non-subscribers, there is an exchange fee of $10 per ticket, plus the difference in ticket value if you are moving into a more expensive performance or seating section.

I’ve lost my ticket!  Can I still come to the show?

Yes – just contact Patron Services and they will reprint your ticket.

I would like to bring my child to a performance.  What ages are appropriate?

Age appropriateness varies with each production.  Contact Patron Services at 732-246-7717 or email patronservices@georgestplayhouse.org to verify what is the best age for the show you wish to attend.  Babies and children who are not old enough to occupy a seat will not be permitted.

Does George Street Playhouse offer subscriptions?

Yes! You may subscribe to the Playhouse in a number of ways, and come as often as you wish to the Playhouse at a greatly reduced cost – and with benefits available only to a subscriber.   For further information, please visit our subscriptions page.

Where do you recommend I park?

Is George Street Playhouse barrier-free? Do you offer performances for people with hearing and visual impairments?

Yes, George Street Playhouse is barrier-free. We offer audio-described performances for patrons who are visually impaired, as well as large print and Braille playbills. We also offer captioned performances for those patrons who are hearing impaired. Assistive listening devices are provided free of charge at every performance upon request.

How long are the performances?

Each play’s length varies. When the runtime is determined, it will be posted on the event details page for the production on our website.

What should I wear to the show?

You should wear whatever you are comfortable in. Some patrons like to come “dressed up” to the theatre, others prefer more comfortable attire. There is no dress code.

May I bring a camera to the show?

Due to Actors Equity and copyright regulations, ANY kind of recording – audio or visual – is strictly prohibited, and cameras or recorders are subject to confiscation.

What is George Street Playhouse’s inclement weather policy?

We will make all efforts to notify customers by phone/emails who purchased tickets if we are forced to cancel a performance due to inclement weather. We will also update our website when a performance is cancelled.

Please note, it is very unusual for a performance to be cancelled due to weather.

Is it possible to audition to be in a show at George Street Playhouse?

George Street Playhouse casts its actors in accordance with the rules and regulations of Actors Equity, the Union of professional actors and stage managers in the United States. Casting notices are posted in the usual professional publications such as Backstage and Playbill.  George Street Playhouse operates on a LORT agreement and holds auditions periodically accordingly.  Please note that we do not accept video submissions nor do we provide housing due to our proximity to New York City. 

I have a script that would be perfect for George Street!  Where can I send it?

Unfortunately, George Street Playhouse does not accept unsolicited scripts for our mainstage or our educational touring productions.

I’ve heard that George Street Playhouse donates tickets for charitable causes and events. How do I go about requesting a donation?

If you are a 501(c)3 Charitable Organization, please email PatronServices@GeorgeStPlayhouse.org with your request. Typically, we'll donate two vouchers for a mainstage production. Each request is reviewed and an email indicating approval or denial will be sent. Please allow 2-3 weeks for processing of your request. Requests received less than one week before the event will not be considered.
