Valerie Vigoda (Kat) is a composer, electric violinist and singer. She is a classically-trained musician and former Army lieutenant. She has toured the world with Cyndi Lauper (opening for Tina Turner and Cher), Joe Jackson, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and her own band GrooveLily. Now she tours less and writes more: Striking 12 (off-Broadway & many regional and international licensed productions, including far-flung theatres in Zimbabwe and Finland); Sleeping Beauty Wakes (Center Theatre Group, Deaf West, McCarter, La Jolla Playhouse, 5th Avenue Theatre); Wheelhouse (TheatreWorks); Toy Story: The Musical (Disney); Long Story Short (Pittsburgh City Theatre, TheatreWorks, San Diego Rep, Prospect Theatre Company); A Midsummer Night's Dream (McCarter/Paper Mill Playhouse) and its complete reworking as the rock musical Midsummer Night (Tennessee Shakespeare Festival); Fantasy Faire (Disneyland); Beautiful Poison (commissioned by 5th Avenue Theatre); and Ernest Shackleton Loves Me (commissioned by TheatreWorks/ La Jolla Playhouse, premiered Balagan/ Seattle Rep 2014). Valerie and her longtime collaborator Brendan Milburn have also written many songs for animated film (Disney, Amazon), and together have won the Jonathan Larson Award for Excellence in Theatre (2006 & 2008), the Los Angeles Ovation Award for Outstanding New Musical (2007), and the ASCAP Foundation Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award (2009), as well as multiple Broadway World Seattle Critic’s Choice Awards (2014). Valerie has been a first-call lyric doctor for Disney live events on two continents. She is especially passionate about creating her new solo live-looping project, Just Getting Good, with vocals, electric violin, Ableton Live and video projections...and walking her son to school. Valerie lived in NYC for over a decade, and now resides in L.A.; son Mose is the proudest production of all.
