Mr. Herrera assumed the role of Managing Director at George Street Playhouse in June 2023.
Within his first year, he spearheaded the development and adoption of the "Bridge to the Future" strategic plan, launched a $10 million fundraising campaign, overhauled GSP's internal operations, and fostered key strategic partnerships. An innovator and community builder, he is a staunch believer in the transformative power of theatre and advocates for its accessibility. Previously, Mr. Herrera was awarded the 2004-2005 Management Fellowship from the League of American Orchestras, working closely with senior leaders at The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Atlanta Symphony, and The Aspen Music Festival & School. At the age of 29, he became the Executive Director of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, and his leadership was recognized when he was nominated for the League's Under 40’s Executive Director of the Year award. In 2009, he took the helm as Executive Director of a private foundation in Mexico City, established by McKinsey & Company partners. He and his foundation were invited to join the Clinton Global Initiative in 2013.
A passionate entrepreneur, Mr. Herrera ventured into various business realms in 2014, including launching a digital accounting firm, an international trade enterprise, a consulting firm, and a mining business, which he sold in 2019 to return to the performing arts. At the onset of the pandemic, Mr. Herrera joined the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra as Executive Director and Chief Development Officer. He transformed the ASO with the strategic vision “More Music for More People in More Places,” significantly boosting fundraising efforts, leading the orchestra on its first European tour, securing a recording contract, commissioning new works, and expanding its music academy.
Mr. Herrera holds both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, along with a master’s in Arts Administration and an MBA from the University of Cincinnati. Originally from Mexico, he now resides in New Jersey with his wife and twin daughters.
