George Street Playhouse veterans John Bolger (last season’s American Son, 2014’s Outside Mullingar) and Armand Schultz (The Spitfire Grill, Jolson Sings Again), as well as Broadway’s Kally Duling (Fun Home) and Laiona Michelle (Amazing Grace) have been cast in Christopher Demos-Brown’s American Hero, on stage January 30 through February 25.
Issue-oriented Educational Touring Theatre
GSP is proud to commission and produce touring theatre for young audiences. Conflict resolution, health and wellness, bullying and character education are addressed by our touring productions. Following each performance, our post-play discussions provide excellent starting points for engaging classroom conversations that can fulfill New Jersey Student Learning Standards for the Performing Arts.
A Musical Comedy
Reigning master of the X-box and junk food junkie, eleven-year-old Austin must face the long-term consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle when he learns his mother has been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. In partnership with The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and ShapingNJ, this new musical comedy explores the challenges of one family learning how to make healthy choices together.
New Kid remains the Touring Theatre's most successful program, addressing racism, prejudice, peer pressure, and conflict resolution. New Kid asks students to explore issues of: moving to a new place, being the outsider, making and keeping friends.
