George Street Playhouse’s Theatre Academy celebrates each student’s creative expression; providing a fun, engaging environment to explore theatre, develop self-confidence, and collaborate with others. Our classes are ideal for students with or without theatre experience. Family and friends are invited to the final session for a class sharing to celebrate the students’ artistry.

Winter Session - Snow Songs 9:00AM – 10:30AM
Explore the joy of musical theatre through songs that celebrate the winter season! From theatre games to song and dance routines, this fun class will embrace students’ imagination as they learn the foundations of musical theatre.
Spring Session - Fabulous Fables 9:00AM – 10:30AM
Spring into character! Inspired by a classic children’s folktale, students will create an original play focusing on the development of character and the magic of ensemble storytelling.
Winter Session - Youth Improv

Anything is possible when you improvise! Students will learn the basic skills of improvisation by playing imaginative theatre games, creating larger than life characters, and thinking on their feet.
Spring Session - Intro to Musical Theatre
Explore the joy of musical theatre! From theatre games to song and dance routines, students will develop a wide range of musical theatre techniques and performance skills.
Winter Session – Enter Stage Left: Teen Scene Study 10:30AM – 12:30PM
Comic monologues and tragic scenes— students will explore their range as an actor as you learn how to bring characters fully to life! This fun, imaginative course will develop students’ acting, movement and vocal skills.
Spring Session – Think Fast! Teen Improv
10:30AM – 12:30PM
Students will think on their feet when they enter the exciting world of improvisation. Comedy? Tragedy? Both? Anything is possible when you invent it in the moment. The only rule is to say, “Yes!”
Winter Session – Monday Night Improv!
6:30pm - 8:30pm
As they explore the foundations of improvisation, students will develop acting, movement, and vocal techniques that focus on the process of bringing a character fully to life. This exciting course provides imaginative, process-oriented training for actors with or without prior experience.
Spring Session - Mainstage Scene Study
6:30pm - 8:30pm
This course will explore the foundations of script analysis, characterization, and relationship through an in-depth investigation of a play from George Street Playhouse’s mainstage. Students will read and explore scenes from Mark Harelik’s moving family drama, The Immigrant. The cost of class includes the script of The Immigrant and one ticket to a performance of the production.
Advanced Courses (ages 18 and up)
Spring Session -- Improv II *New Class!
6:30pm - 8:30pm
This course will build on the foundation of Monday Night Improv to deepen characterization, spontaneity, and the spirit of fun! Improv II will concentrate on long form improv techniques to bring dynamic, emotionally rich and hilarious scenes to life.
